Challenging the Tower of Babel

The history of Babel is the history of humanity. It is said that the Earth had the same language and the complete humanity used the same words. Men and women emigrated to the east and they found a plain in the region of Seenar where they decided to establish. They said to each other: “Let’s make bricks and cook them in the fire”. They had bricks instead of stones and bitumen instead of mortar. Then they said: “Let’s build a city and a tower with a peak that could reach the sky. Let’s be famous and not be spreaded over the Earth”.
The history tells us that God came down to see the city and the tower that men were arising and told them: “You all form one nation and you all speak the same language, this is the principle of your business. Nothing will stop you from doing everything you propose. Then, let’s descend and there, I will mix up your language so you can’t understand each other”. In that way, God spreaded them over the Earth and they stopped the construction of the tower. That is why it was called “Babel” because, and according to what the history says, God confused the language of all the inhabitants of the Earth and spreaded them all over the surface of the globe.
Year 2009. Men and women are still spreaded over the Earth, languages still divide us and idiomatic and cultural barriers are still intruding in the understanding of human beings. Translators and interpreters work to diminish the differences, teachers of languages work to educate people in other languages. Still, people continue without understanding each other, even between those who share the same mother tongue. We should overcome the idiomatic barriers but we should also fight for understanding, equality of rights and opportunities, freedom of speech and finally, world peace.

From this site, I offer my contribution and knowledge to understanding, to make our “Babel” a habitable Earth, in peace and equality of rights and opportunities for everyone. We are challenging the “Babel” of the 20th century. This is my proposal, this is the challenge.
